Preparing for your appointment
Before Your Visit
To make the most of your consultation, please read the following guidance before attending.
Bring a referral letter if you have one
If your GP or another specialist has referred you, please bring the referral letter. It is not required but helps us understand your history.
Bring previous investigations
Any relevant scans (CT, MRI), audiograms, blood tests, or previous clinic letters should be brought to your appointment.
List your current medications
Please bring a list of all medications you are currently taking, including over-the-counter medicines and supplements.
Arrive 10–15 minutes early
Please arrive a little early to complete any registration paperwork at Medcare Medical Center reception.
Insurance and payment
We accept a range of insurance plans. Please bring your insurance card and check with Medcare reception regarding your coverage before your appointment.

Procedure Guidance
Sialoendoscopy
Before the procedure
- You may be asked to fast for a period before the procedure if general anaesthesia is planned
- Arrange for someone to drive you home if sedation or general anaesthesia is used
- Inform Dr Alkadad of any blood-thinning medications — you may need to pause these beforehand
- Avoid eating or drinking for the instructed period before a general anaesthetic
After the procedure
- Some mild swelling or discomfort around the jaw is normal and usually settles within a few days
- Eat soft foods and stay well hydrated for the first 24–48 hours
- Avoid hard, chewy, or spicy foods initially
- Attend your follow-up appointment as scheduled
- Contact the clinic if you experience increasing pain, fever, or significant swelling
Nasal Surgery (Including Packing-Free Procedures)
Before the procedure
- You will be given specific pre-operative instructions — follow these carefully
- Stop smoking at least two weeks before surgery if possible
- Inform Dr Alkadad of all medications, especially blood thinners or aspirin
- Arrange transport home and a responsible adult to stay with you on the day of surgery
After the procedure
- Expect some nasal congestion and mild bleeding in the first few days — this is normal
- Because we use a packing-free technique, you will not experience the discomfort of pack removal
- Avoid blowing your nose forcefully for at least two weeks
- Sleep with your head elevated for the first few nights
- Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for two weeks
- Attend all follow-up appointments so Dr Alkadad can monitor your healing
FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery)
Before the procedure
- A pre-operative CT scan of the sinuses is usually required — Dr Alkadad will arrange this
- Stop blood-thinning medications as instructed
- Do not eat or drink from midnight before the procedure if under general anaesthesia
- Arrange transport and post-operative support at home
After the procedure
- Nasal saline rinses are an important part of recovery — you will be shown how to use these
- Avoid blowing your nose for two weeks
- Expect some crusting and discharge in the first few weeks — this is part of normal healing
- Attend all post-operative clinic visits for endoscopic cleaning and review
- Avoid swimming and dusty environments during recovery
